I have lots of full size inspiration journals and books. I wanted to create a small journal, with just a few simple visuals for inspiration. When I travel, I try to take a small plastic container with a few supplies to make things while I’m away. The one thing I’ve been missing is inspiration, thus the idea of a smaller version of my inspiration journals.

Instructions (Print version)

1. Use your Fiskars Premium Crafter’s Trimmer to cut 3 pieces of kraft cardstock 3.5” x 5”. Then use your Leave it to Weaver Border Punch on the short side of each sheet.  Set these aside and begin to assemble each page.
2. For the front, I used a piece of scrap paper that I had used my squeeze punches on. I don’t throw my scraps away! I like finding ways to use the negatives on these pieces. I trimmed the piece of pattern paper (with the negative punches made with the Large Block Party and Large Square-a-Licious Squeeze Punches) to 3.5”x 4”. You can build from this, adhering scraps of pattern papers on the backside, that show through to the front, then add a strip of vintage ledger paper with typed “things that inspire me”. Use the Large Cameo Appearance Squeeze Punch on vintage ledger paper and then handwrite visuals and tuck punched piece into one of the negative punch holes. Machine stitch mini pompom trim below ledger strip and also under “visuals”.

3. To make a simple flower accent: Take scalloped Jenni Bowlin crepe paper ribbon and twist and wind it around and around on top of itself, then tack it down in the center by handstitching several times with an “X”. Then rough it up a bit and pull layers apart. Adhere right above and to the right of the ledger strip. We’ll come back to the cover in step 5.

4. Take one of the sheets of kraft cardstock from step 1 and adhere magazine photo that’s trimmed to 3x4”. Then trim a strip of pattern paper ½ x4” and fill in on right side. Then use the Large Seal of Approval Squeeze Punch on black pattern paper and Medium Round n’ Round Squeeze Punch on pink pattern paper. Adhere circle to scalloped circle, then trim in half. Adhere half circle to upper right side of page and then machine zigzag stitch between magazine page and strip of paper. Then adhere the other half scallop circle to the back side of kraft cardstock matching up scallops.
5. To finish cover, trim a 3.5” strip of black pattern paper with Fiskars Pinking Scissors. Adhere cover piece to kraft cardstock piece from step 4 backside and then adhere pinked strip to the top edge.

6. Page 3: Trim magazine page with quote to 3.5”x4” and adhere to piece of trimmed kraft cardstock. Adhere typed “I love quotes” ledger paper to bottom right. Then use Fiskars Pinking Scissors to trim salvaged fabric (from an old shirt or any clothing item)

The shirt I salvaged this piece from had elastic, which added interest and texture. Before stitching this fabric piece down, flip kraft cardstock over and adhere trimmed piece of pattern paper 3.5”x 4”, then proceed to machine stitch through layers of front and back sides. Add torn magazine piece to the backside to complete page 4.

7. Page 5: Adhere 3.5”x 4”pattern paper to last sheet of kraft cardstock.

Then machine stitch torn magazine sheet (that’s just slightly smaller in size than pattern paper) I like to use machine stitching to outline either a word or in this case a visual. After stitching just through the magazine page, adhere stitched page to pattern paper/kraft cardstock piece.

8. Page 6: Take magazine clipping that’s approximately 3.5”x3.5” and handwrite “piecings”, then machine stitch around 3 sides of title wording twice. Adhere magazine clipping to backside of kraft piece from step 7. Then trim skinny strips of pattern paper to fill in space. Take a skinny strip of black pattern paper and trim one long side with Pinking Scissors and adhere to the top of piece.
9. Then simply thread flexible ribbon through punched slits to bind together. Take the long ends of the ribbon and tie loose ends together to finish.
