I found this darling sewing notions rocking chair at the thrift store and got so excited when I saw it.  I knew it would be the perfect gift for my 21 year old daughter who loves to sew and I decided on the spot I would alter it!

When I started taking pieces apart to alter the chair I discovered that this was totally handcrafted.  There was writing on the back cardboard of each cushion with some directions.  This made the little sewing chair even more unique to me knowing that someone had taken the time to handcraft such an interesting piece.  What an important reminder of how powerful journaling by hand is in making personal connections.

I have used the rotary cutter on fabric before and love the ease of use. For this project I not only used it to cut the fabric pieces to recover the cushions but I also used it to cut much of the paper.

I used a soft pink solid fabric that would compliment the Heidi Grace papers I used for this project. Using the rotary cutter I cut and adhered the fabric over the old fabric.

After the cushions were covered in fabric I cut and covered all of the flat (wood) surfaces remaining with Heidi Grace papers from the Reagan's Closet collection.

Notice the darling scallop cut along the side board thread holders.  That was created using the scallop blade on my rotary cutter!

Now that the base of my project is complete, it's time to embellish! You can see in the photo that I used rub ons as well directly on to the fabric.  They went on to the fabric very easily and give the chair a very finished look.

I used my Ultra shapexpress to cut 2 butterfly shapes out and embellished them using wire I twirled around my Right Angle wire tool.

Finally I used stickers, chipboard, trim, and even some rub-ons to finish embellishing the chair. Once I was happy with the results I added some sewing essentials to make my gift complete.

Fun items like this are all around, just waiting for you to discover and add your hand crafted touch.
