quick summer pagesClick image to enlarge Designer: May Flaum Quick, it's summer!! This is a thought that goes through my head often. When I'm squirreled away crafting in winter I like to take my time, savor in lengthy techniques, spend a rainy day doing nothing but crafting... but not in July! No, right now I find myself pulled a million different ways, but I still do want to create. What's a solution? Get out my Fiskars tools and play - in shorter amounts, that is. I'm a big fan of what I call Scrapbook Recipes (I'm even doing a whole month-long class of them HERE), and how by utilizing some base ideas that work well for you, you can have all the creative fun with a lot less worrying and planning. Now I know it's not terribly innovative, but the sketch I'm showing you here is one that I have fallen in love with for my summer scrapbook sessions. It allows me to put 3 photos on a page (usually I put 4 photos in similar grouping on another page if doing 2-page spread) and can easily be created in an hour or less. I will be sharing two pages with you today - and a give-away as well!! (info at bottom) Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version) Here is my first take on the sketch. Note that I only used cardstock and stickers for the title (ok, and a bit of thread) outside my pen and tools. This is a very budget friendly design to re-create. If you don't have a border punch torn, deco scissors, or deco blades would work too!
![]() 1. Place photos (were 4 x 6, cropped (starting top right) to 4 x 5 1/2, 4 x 4, 4 x 5) on page and determine any additional cropping. Then cut a 6x12" strip of red cardstock and place on page (under the 4 x 5 landscape oriented photo). Trim off the excess paper and save.
2. Place the excess red cardstock as shown at top right. Trim off the bit that hangs over.
![]() 3.Punch out stars (using twinkle twinkle punch) from white cardstock and place as shown.
4. Add title, strip of white 1/2" wide cardstock, and also journal on sides of photos. ![]() 5. Finish page by running through sewing machine and doing sloppy straight stitch around perimeter twice.
Now here's a variation on the same sketch. Note that this time I put journaling in where I had designated space for a title. That's the great thing about sketches- they're just rough ideas!
![]() 1. Use Versamark (watermark) ink + a color ink on a Fiskars background stamp. I just splotched color on randomly. This will give the cardstock a very subtle pattern.
![]() 2. Attach photos as shown.
3. Cut out and add journaling paper, also use Upper Crest punch on a strip of paper and cut apart and attach (as shown)
4. Finish layout with a few flowers and buttons
Supplies:
other- Prima flowers, buttons, thread, VersaMark ink, Brilliance ink, felt flower from www.evalicious.etsy.com, K&Co letter stickers, felt and glass leaves
