Let's Learn The Seasons

Recently, my niece Madison needed help learning the seasons. Her mom and I found Fiskars new Seasonal Embossing Texture Plates to be the perfect tool to create her very own independent learning activity. Not only can she take it anywhere, but it includes a self checking method as well.

Instructions (Print version)

  1. Foundation Board: Trim chipboard to 8.5 x 12. Adhere white cardstock  to board front with glue stick. Outline with black marker, and edge with stamp pad. For hangar, punch two holes at top, thread ribbon through holes and secure with a knot.
  2. Seasonal Pockets: Take apart library card and lay flat on top of patterned paper (wrong side).  Trace around edges with pencil, and cut out with scissors. Score folds with Tool Taxi (embossing stylus tip).  Fold and apply glue stick to tabs to complete pocket. Repeat 3 more times with different papers to make 3 pockets. Adhere pockets to board in seasonal order, beginning with winter. Emboss Seasonal words (winter, spring etc) on to small pieces of white cardstock; apply to each pocket with Foam Strips. Apply ink to fronts of chipboard letters (SEASONS). When dry, adhere to middle of board (overlapping pockets) with Foam Dots.
  3. Seasonal Cards: Trim white cardstock into cards sized 2.5 x 2.5 inches square. Use Tool taxi (Embossing Stylus Tip) to emboss 1 design per card (wrong side of paper). Outline cards with thin black marker. Back each card with same paper as matching seasonal envelope.

 

To Play Game :

  1. Have child shuffle and stack all cards (embossed side facing up)
  2. Child decides which season each card matches.
  3. Self Check: When pockets are full…child empties each pocket one at a time…flips card over, and if the back of the card marches the seasonal pattern on the pocket - it’s correct.
