Have you noticed the way some people decorate their laptops these days? There are ‘skins’ and ‘sleeves’ and charms and all sorts of things that inspire a person to go out and brand themselves. I thought it would be fun to start in time this year and make something fun for the man in my life! This laptop cover might look complicated, but it’s really very simple with the Rotary Cutter and a Shape Template. I wanted to make a chipboard tag as well…cutting through the thickness was a breeze with the Titanium Nitride Scissors. Not only is this gift practical but you’ve just made a fabulous personalized gift. Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version) Supplies: Ink by Steph – Stickers, Clear Sticker and Rubons. Other: Fabric, Fusible Batting, Sewing Machine or needle and thread, 4x6 “ of plastic sheeting. 3x5 photo, chipboard.
Since there are a variety of sizes of laptops…I thought it would be best to explain HOW I created this cover rather than give exact dimensions. So with your fabric folded in a triple layer on your cutting mat…trace around the laptop, adding 1 ½” inches to each side. The length will be 1 ½ times the laptop closed in order to create a generous flap. Cut this same shape from quilted batting (single). Fold one panel in half vertically and sandwhich in betteen right sides of fabric and lay batting panel on top. . Stitch around 3 edges and thru all thicknesses, leaving bottom layer open. Turn to right side. Hand or machine sew bottom edge, then make final turn. ![]() Use Shape Template to cut plastic pocket. Pre- punch holes into plastic using a sharp needle, then hand stitch to inside right cover with dark embroidery thread.
