wood heart boxClick image to enlarge Designer: Lisa Falduto Ah, love is in the air! Valentine's day will be here before you know it and I have this cute little box all decorated and ready to give to one of my loved ones! I picked up this cute little heart shaped box at my local craft store and decided to alter it using the new Heidi Grace and Cloud 9 Valentine lines. The new fingertip tools made altering this little box a whiz! The box has a heart shaped recessed area that looked like it would be perfect for tile. Instead of using tile to fill the recessed area, I used Heidi Grace Chipboard hearts from her Valentine line. This is a fun and unique look!
To start with I cut strips of patterned paper with my Fiskars Portable Rotary trimmer to cover the outside of the box with the double sided tape. I needed strips a bit longer than 12" so I cut two 12" strips and then used my adhesive to secure into one long 24" strip. Then I wrapped them around the outside of the box (bottom and cover) and trimmed off the excess. I repeated this for the bottom part of the inside. I added some ribbon tied in a knot around the outside edge of the front cover and then added some Cloud 9 sparkle stickers around the ribbon. From the ribbon knot I hung a chipboard piecing I created. You will notice that around the outside edge of the circle chipboard piece I accented with black cardstock using my Fiskars Stamp paper edgers. I used this same technique around the "I love you" tag. I secured this piecing with a mini safety pin. ![]() Next I created a pattern by using tracing paper inside the top heart recessed area of the box. Then I cut this traced pattern out and laid it on top of my patterned paper. I used my Fiskars Fingertip Swivel knife to cut this heart out, then placed it in the recessed area using my sticky tape. You will want to repeat this on the inside cover of your box as well as the bottom of the box. Then I applied glue to the rim and filled it with sparkly red glitter. I applied the pearls using my Fingertip Craft Tweezers. Once your glitter dries well then you can add the chipboard hearts on top. I placed foam squares on the back of each heart in a double layer and then using my Fiskars No. 5 Non-stick scissors shaved off the edges or corners so they would not show. I also inked the edges of my hearts to make them stand out a bit more against the pink background. ![]() I plan to fill my box with some fun Valentine's candy. You could also create a heart shaped mini-book that would fit neatly inside your box. Or how about a nice love letter to that special someone! The possibilities are endless in this little treasured box! Difficulty rating
