I have an affinity for old frames. I’ve collected them for years….sometimes I leave them as I find them with chippy paint and sometimes I paint them and give them new life. In the case of this project, I have combined the “as is” with the refurbished. I like the mix. This project is actually made completely of existing items…including an old wool sweater that was accidentally dried in the dryer. I am always happy to find new interesting uses for things that would otherwise be tossed out.

Instructions (Print version)

1. To create the backing for the empty frame, simply turn the frame over and measure the opening, then use the Fingertip Craft Knife to cut out a sheet of chipboard to fit the opening.
2. Take an old felted sweater or other discarded fabric and cover chipboard. It works fine to just tape or glue the fabric down on the backside.
3. Use 12” Premium Crafter’s Trimmer to cut 6 – ¾” x 12” strips of My Mind’s Eye Pattern Paper. Measure out and trim down to fit around the edge of the frame. Then use the Scallop Sentiment Border Punch on the long sides of each strip. Adhere to the edges all the way around the inside of the frame, tucking slightly under.
4. Take each of the 3 small frames, turn them over, measure the opening and use the Fingertip Craft Knife to cut papers to fill the opening. Adhere Jenni Bowlin Pattern Papers and vintage dictionary page (center frame) to frames, leaving the top unattached on the middle frame. Add a gemstone to the two outside frame bottoms. (The 3 smaller frames were all estate sale finds, which were sprayed pink)
5. Use the Scallop Punch – Squarealicious on black cardstock, then take an index photo and trim to fit on punched square. Cut sentiment out of vintage book or type sentiment and adhere below photo. Punch a hole at the top of the punch using the 1/4” Rectangle Hand Punch. Thread black ribbon through hole and then around and through center frame top, tying at the top over frame.
6. Adhere all 3 frames centering on larger frame base.
