I've been trying to come up with a creative way to gift some craft goodness to friends that is special but won't cost a lot of money. What I love about this project that I've come up with is that you can make it any size, length, and pattern to suit any style. Just fill it up with buttons, sequins, ribbons, or any other fun little craft supplies that your friend would enjoy.
Some Fiskars tools like microtip scissors, tape runners, and small punches would fit in too! Just customize to your budget and friend's tastes and have fun with the creative process! Once this gift has been given the lucky recipient can use it as a little creative pouch to take on the go, to store special treasure, as a sewing kit, or any other way he or she would like. There is so much fun to be had - both in making the gift and recieving it.

Do you like the project I've made today? You could win it! Hop on over to my blog where I'm giving this away - including everything shown inside it.

Instructions (Print version)

1. Cut four 6.5 squares of fabric. I used 2 fabrics and cut 2/each pattern. Then cut a total of two 6.5 x 3 fabric pieces of one fabric (topstitch along top edge) and two 6.5 x 3.5 pieces of the other fabric (again, topstitch along edge). Place on the squares you want them to be on to create pockets.

2. Sew the squares (and rectangle pocket pieces) together and press the seams all the same direction. This will create a strip approximately 24" long and 6.5" high. Iron the piece before continuing.

3. Cut out a strip of cream fabric that is the same size as your finished pocket piece. I used mine as a template so I'd be sure to get the size right. Then mark where the front cover will be by pressing the cream fabric.

4. Create the front cover. Cut out two hearts using the USX template and sew to front. Then add buttons and beads using needle and thread. Also cut a small hole in the center of the fabric (where the second crease will be when folded) and stitch in a length of ribbon for the tie. You'll secure the other piece of ribbon later on.

5. Now you're ready to put it all together! Place the two strips of fabric together (right sides facing) and stitch the end, top, and bottom leaving the front cover end open. Then turn right side out and iron.

NOTE: when sewing the top I added in the loop of wide green ribbon so that the project could be hung on the wall - ready to go with inspiration at any time!

6. Now to close the front. I'm terrible at things like this, so I used a piece of lace along the front edge to hide my stitching and add a decorative touch. Be sure to stitch in a length of ribbon for the second tie as well.

7. Now your project is complete - fill it up!
