There is nothing quite like that wonderful smell of charcoal briquettes and some sizzling food on a hot summer day!  How often we love to invite friends over to enjoy our backyard with us in the summer and just have some fun.  The kids run around and have water fights, the adults catching up and sharing stories, and lawn games galore!  This summer I hope to inspire you to throw your very own backyard BBQ.  What better way to start than by getting out the crafting supplies and creating some very fun invitations.  I've also thrown in a coordinating sign for welcoming our friends to the party.  Just think of all the clever ways you can come up with to use these patterns throughout your party!  I would love to see all that you dream up so be sure to post your creations in the Fiskars Crafts gallery so I can take a look!

Instructions (Print version)

1.  Cut a piece of white cardstock 5"x7".

2.  Using your Fiskars M Block party squeeze punch create 22 squares using your red cardstock.  Attach these squares, 3 rows on top and 3 rows on bottom spacing evenly to create a checkerboard pattern.  If the red squares do not completely meet with the side of the white cardstock you can always trim the excess.

3.  Use the small floral stamp from your Fiskars Kimberly Poloson Flourishes stamp sheet.  Stamp this image using white on the red squares and then Fiskars Fire Me Up High Density Pigment Ink on the white squares that fall in between the red squares.

4.  Now we will take the Fiskars Ultra Shapexpress and the Fiskars Envelope 1 template along with your navy blue cardstock and cut one complete envelope shape out.  Next turn your navy blue cut piece so the envelope bottom is facing you.  Now cut the side wings off and the top envelope flap off.  This will create your basic pocket shape.

5.  Use your Fiskars 3.5x18.5 inch ruler and your Fiskars Tool Taxi stylus to create a border on all sides of the pocket except the top scoring in from each side 1/2".  Fold these over and trim out the corners so they will lay flat.  Use adhesive to attach these flaps down flat in the back.

6.  Using your white journaling pen create faux stitching on all sides of your pocket

7.  Take your Fiskars Eyelet setter and create a hole in the 4 corners as shown setting 4 small silver snaps or eyelets in place.

8.  Attach your pocket at a slight slant on to your checkered card background.

9.  Using your Fiskars High Density Still of the night Ink pad and Fiskars Kids Birthday stamps, create a "Come Join the Fun" border along the top of the pocket.  Tie a knot in the center of your red gingham ribbon and mount it below this border.

10.  Cut a piece of white cardstock that will easily slide into your pocket leaving at least one inch peeking out of the top.  Now stamp "You're invited" from your set of Fiskars Kids Birthday stamps on the upper right hand corner of this piece.  Make sure that you only apply ink to the letters and not to the surrounding designs.  Ink around the edges of your white sliding invitation piece using your Fiskars Fire Me Up High Density Ink Pad.

11.  Use your Fiskars Soleil squee punch create one sunburst shape out of yellow cardstock and attach this piece next to the spot where you stamped "You're Invited."  Then add some gold glitter to the top of the punched Soleil piece.

12.  Punch 2 ants using your black cardstock and your Fiskars Gettin' Antsy squeeze punch.  Place as shown using your Fiskars foam squares.

13.  Add the letters "BBQ" from your Cloud 9 Cinnamon stick cardstock alphas.

14.  Mount the entire card on black cardstock so there is a 1/8" border all the way around.

15.  Using your computer and printer and an 8 1/2"x11" piece of white cardstock, print in   the center of the sheet, "Welcome to our Backyard BBQ."

16.  Create 3 rows of the checkered pattern like you created on the invitation above and below the printing.  Repeat the stamping with the white and red ink as you did before in step #3 above.

17.  Add several ant punches you create using your Fiskars Gettin' Antsy punch and add them to the top and bottom border using your Fiskars foam squares.

18.  Mount your sign on a piece of black cardstock that is larger than the sign and trim leaving a 1/4" border all the way around.
