Spring break scrapbooking

Spring break scrapbooking

Spring break is here, and there are vacations, special occasions, and reasons to scrapbook galore!

We've asked four of the Fiskars design team members to share some spring break inspired layouts with you here -

Easter is one of the first holidays of spring and it is the perfect occasion to capture some fun and colorful photographs.  Adding flowers to a springy scrapbooking project is a MUST in my book!  In creating this layout, I’ve used some pretty florals but kept my little guy’s page somewhat boyish in the color scheme steering clear of pinks.

Of course, creating eggs with your oval templates or oval cutter is a cinch!  Use Fiskars’ Texture Plates assortment to add great textures to your cardstock eggs as well.  I’ve added some fun dots to my yellow egg and a wavy vertical design to the orange egg.  It takes just a moment to add the texture to small accents but it makes a BIG difference!

Get creative with your shape cutting tools by creating fun and interesting shapes!  Cut an oval (with oval template) and then cut a larger offset oval around the negative space.  I’ve created a fun oval element that mimics my handmade egg accents and it’s a great spot to anchor journaling and another flower embellishment.

It’s no secret that I like to bend the “rules” every now & then. And what better time than Spring Break to do just that?! In this fun layout, I decided to break tradition of pastel colors & easter eggs….and scrapbook about easter food instead!

My “Easter Trifle” layout captures one of my family’s favorite holiday desserts…a strawberry lemon trifle. I photographed my daughter making the trifle, and then included the recipe as journaling. This is a great way to capture your holiday cooking traditions.

To add a festive touch, I used the Fiskars Leave it to Weaver punch, then wove a spring green ribbon through the punched design. I also used the medium That’s Amore squeeze punch to create a visual triangle of hearts that draws the eye down to the recipe itself. To carry the hearts theme (we “heart” trifle!) through to the journaling, I stamped tiny hearts using a Heidi Grace stamp. Here’s one more quick tip…see the zig zag stitching at the top of the layout? It’s not stitching at all…it’s a clear sticker from Cloud 9. So easy!

Last year Easter happened to fall on my birthday, so my boyfriend and I took advantage of the long weekend and headed to New York City for a trip.

Usually I prefer my Spring Breaks to be full of warm weather and sunshine but this was a great trip filled with lots of sight-seeing and sunshine.  I took so many photos during the trip and wanted to include some favorites on this page.  By trimming them down to 2"x2" I was able to fit quite a few on the page. The apron lace and scallop sentiment border punches added another fun level of detail to my page, as well as the All a Flutter butterfly punch.

I also used my Tag, You're It punch to create a fun title.  I began by punching out a tag for each letter of the title. Using Heidi Grace stamps, I centered a stamped letter on the tag.  I wanted to add the tags to the page in a fun way, so I poked a hole through the top of each one and strung them down onto thick white thread.  I also added two hearts punched using That's Amore and covered with Cloud 9 rain dots. The thread was stretched across the page to create a little "clothesline" for the tag title.

One of my favorite things about spring is the beautiful bright colors that pop up everywhere after a long season of gray.  When I went to gather materials for this page, I kept that in mind.  I started with some bright yellow cardstock and added all of my favorite pastel brights from Cloud 9’s Sunrise Smoothie line and Heidi Grace’s Reagan’s Closet and Sweetest Bug Collections.  I knew this color palette would be a perfect fit for scrapping my youngest son’s first Easter.

Sam was about 9 months old on his first Easter – and VERY mobile!!  Combine that with an overcast spring day, and I knew there was no way I was going to get a perfect Easter portrait.  I sat Sam down with his Easter basket and a few eggs and just shot away as he checked them out (and put him back every time he crawled away!)  I ended up with a cute series of shots that capture his personality at this age.  There was no way I could pick just one, so I printed them as 2x3s and used my five favorite photos.  I staggered them down the page and used foam adhesive on 3 of them to add some dimension to the project.

The new Fiskars limited edition Chicky Baby and All A-Flutter punches were the perfect way to embellish this page.  I used them on vintage music paper and inked the edges for more definition.  I also used the Apron Lace border punch on some Cloud 9 striped paper and added it to the edge of the page.  Cloud 9 yellow raindots & some extra stitching finish off this project.

We hope these ideas inspire your spring scrapbooking!
