January Organization Tip Winner

Doreen submitted a prize-winning tip for organizing her craft space.  We loved her idea and hope you will too.  Thanks and congratulations!

I know there are lots of ideas out there to keep all those ribbon spools organized, but they never seem to hold enough for me!

I thought of a quick and inexpensive way to organize the large amount of spools that I seem to have accumulated over the years.

To me, ribbon is just like fabric.......you see it, you like it, you buy it, and then you figure out what you are going to make with it!

To help organize my ribbon fetish, I took a bunch of old spring-type tension rods that I had sitting in a closet and threaded the spools on them.  The diameter of the tension rods are small enough to fit through the small hole in the cardboard sides of the spools.  I then adjusted the length of the tension rods to fit between the wall and a cabinet in my craft room.  The rubber feet on each end of the rod work perfectly for gripping the walls.  I have stacked several of these tension rods, one on top of the other for maximum storage.

I now have "some" of my ribbons organized by theme and can see them all in one glance.  I even have a pair of scissors (Fiskars of course!) hanging from a hook next to the ribbon which enables me to just measure and cut the amount of ribbon I need without removing the spool from the rod.  I really enjoy my ribbon organizer!  It just so happens to fit in that unusable space behind my craft room door....a double-bonus!
