Guest Designers try: 3-in-1 corner punches

Guest Designers try: 3-in-1 corner punches

Fiskars just released four new designs of decorative corner punches that have three designs in one punch. I sent the punches out to four different guest designers to see what they thought and what they could come up with...

It is the time of year where the stores start to fill with the goodies for all of the coming holidays, and seeing little Halloween costumes always gets my creative juices flowing like apple cider! I really get inspired by fantastic products, and finding new paper got my wheels turning. I started with an idea from playing with the 3-in-1 Sea Pearls punch, and just let it all roll from there.

Beware of Halloween Fun is a fun card that uses the punch was used to create the "flower" layer by cutting a strip of paper, punching the corner and then trimming that section off. Repeat that process 7 times and then trim each piece into a pie shaped wedge. Adhere each piece individually adjusting carefully until you complete the circle. So much fun, and now your corner punches aren't just for corners! (note: patterned paper from Pink Paislee "Twilight", owl is an image that I designed for Cornish Heritage Farms)

For this card I mixed things up to make a border from the punch. To get the scallop, cut a one inch strip of paper and use the corner rounder and then trim off at 3/4" repeating until you have eight pieces. Lightly adhere and then trim the paper pieces so that you don't see them underneath each of the other pieces. Stitch down so that they don't go anywhere, also adds a great texture! (note: "Lemonade" line from Basic Grey, stamp set I designed for Cornish Heritage Farms, Ranger embossing ink and heat embossed with Cranberry Adirondack and Shabby Shutters embossing powders.)

I loved working with these unique decorative corner punches, they are so versitile to allow you to maximize your creativity with them with their 3 different patterns in one punch. I worked with the Valentrio 3-in-1 punch.

For something fun, I created a flower and used the punch on the edges of each petal. I used a different corner of the same punch for the edge of the card. To help the punches stand out a little bit more, I added a little inking along the edges too.

I had never worked with the fiskars tape runner before, and have to say that I will be purchasing this as my adhesive from now on. It is now my new FAVORITE adhesive to use.

I am a 37 year-old wife, mama to two, and graphic artist.  Whenever I get a break from those jobs, I can usually be found scrapbooking, running, blogging, shopping online, and adeptly avoiding housework.  I'm currently a designer for KI Memories, Jenni Bowlin Studio, and Write.Click.Scrapbook.   I have an extraordinary love of white space and effective typography, both of which I try to include on all my scrapbook pages. Even though this 3-in-1 Romantique punch makes gorgeous & intricate corner designs, I wanted to use it for something other than corners. After playing around with the punch for a bit, I realized it would make some wonderfully detailed flower petals.

To create the petals, I first punched corners on various strips of patterned paper.  Then I roughly sketched the shape of a petal on the back side of the paper to use as a guide for cutting out the shape. (see photo).  I didn't worry too much about making these exactly uniform - I like slightly asymmetrical flowers!

I used each of the three corner designs to create different sized petals.  On each orange flower petal, I used the punch twice - once on each corner of a 1" strip.
After adhering the petals to my page, I used my sewing machine to stitch around each flower with brown thread.  Some buttons secured with twine finished the flowers off.

i've been wanting to do something with this photo of my daughter for quite some time. i love the patriotic  (Americana 3-in-1) corner punch because it adds a subtle touch of americana without being cheesy or overwhelming. i'm from the "less is more" scrapbooking school of thought, so i really appreciate this.

I used my fiskars personal trimmer to frame the photo with patterned paper.

Ipunched each corner with the punch. then layered it onto white carstock, and then layered the white cardstock onto another patterned paper using my fiskars tape runner for adhesive.

On the blue patterned paper, I punched all four corners with another corner punch and tucked the cardstock into the corners. voila. simple and patriotic.

I hope you've enjoyed these guest projects as much as I have- be sure to watch for future guest articles and projects from the design team with these stamps.
