Organize Your Craft Space

Clutter is the enemy!  It steals our precious craft time by sending us on a search muttering, “Where did I put that…?” or worse, “Somebody took my…”  It eats into crafting dollars when we replace something we already have, but can’t find.  Admit it, if you stayed organized, you’d have more time and money to craft!

Here are a few tips from our creative team on their favorite way to control clutter within their craft space.  Enjoy their tips and click on the links for images of their solutions.  These images can also be found in the gallery.  Add your comments to their solutions and upload your organization ideas too!

I love these floral buckets because they’re cute as well as functional. They add some lively color to my room while acting as the perfect storage space for some of my taller items, such as scissors or rulers, as well as items that I don’t need to see everyday (like my ever-depleting stack of adhesive.)

A few months ago, I decided to redecorate/reorganize my office. I like things organized, but really have to have eye candy around the room to keep me inspired as I create. I've always liked to tear images and words from magazines...so I gathered these things from my files and slapped then up on this cork board in no particular order...just the way my eye liked them at the moment. Some are stapled, others are pinned. The idea is to keep putting things up there till it gets so full I have to start another. For the board, I just used an old poster frame print that somehow had it's glass cracked. I removed all the glass, covered with cork sheeting and decorated with ribbons and large photo corners. Voila...a perfectly good canvas to pin up my ideas before I go forgetting them.

I love embellishments. In fact it's my favorite part of the creative process when I design a page. I struggle with storing these items because they are usually smaller in size and I have a large supply of them. An old tackle box became my perfect storage solution. It contains 2 pull out pieces that store my small embellishments, like paper flowers and metal shapes, wonderfully. The wider slots are great for my larger items such as thread and ribbon packs.

When I have a large collection of paper, stickers & rub-ons from the same manufacturer I like to use these paper holders as my solution for keeping them organized. I like that they are easy to access and to move; they hold 12 x 12 paper and smaller items; I can use dividers or pockets to separate and label collections easily; and if I need more space for additional paper I simply get another paper holder.

My favorite storage solutions have come from reusable items - found right in my kitchen. Spools of misc. ribbon fit perfectly into these tall, clear plastic canisters which originally held caramel corn.  Strips of ribbon can be organized by color in glass spaghetti jars & fruit jars. Small spice jars are helpful for separating photo corners by color, and other small embellishments as well.
