Fall Cards {2009}

Fall Cards {2009}

Fall is upon us, and with it comes a whole new season and great reasons to utilize your Fiskars tools to hand craft some new cards. Four of the Fiskars design team members have created unique designs to share and inspire -

Making your own spider webs for Halloween cards is really just plain fun.

Using Elmer's Washable School Glue, squeeze a line of glue along the design in the Webbing Texture Plate.

If desired, lightly sprinkle with extra fine glitter while glue is wet.  Set aside to dry fully.

Once dry, simply peel right off and it's ready for your card!  You can use either side of web for two different looks depending on if you chose to add glitter.  Attach with Glue Dots for an invisible, strong bond.

With a spider web, you'll most likely want a … spider!  The 'Bling Bling' Squeeze Punch topped with a Pop-up Punch Circle makes the cutest and quickest cartoon spider.  Googly eyes give him even more personality.  I love creating cards that are not only fun for the recipient to receive, but fun for me to make!

Stamps are one of my favorite tools and I'm always looking for interesting ways to use them. When going through my collection of stamps, I decided the bold design on this frame stamp would look really cool framing each individual letter of one word, giving the word the feeling of importance. And what better word to do that with on a card than the word "YOU?"

This is a simple technique!  After stamping the image on a piece of off-white cardstock using the Li'l Davis Ornaments stamp, allow the ink to dry. Cut around the stamped image with a pair of Microtip No. 5 Scissors. Using the Medium Round n Round Squeeze Punch, punch circles from coordinating patterned paper and adhere it to the center of the stamped frames. Add letter stickers to complete your word and adhere the framed letters to the front of your card. (My card is 7" wide x 6" high.) Complete the sentiment using rub-ons on a strip of cardstock and punch the bottom edge of the strip with the Effervescence Border Punch. Add a strip of patterned paper along the top edge of the card, followed by another strip cut with the Scallop Decorative Edge Scissors.

Add a note to the inside of the card using the Li'l Davis Just A Note Stamp Set.

The focus of this fun, sectioned card is the decorative panels I created with the new Romantique 3-in-1 corner punch. I love the old-fashioned detail those corners add.

For this card, you’ll need solid cardstock, one 7” X 4” card base and some scraps. I also used a page from an old dictionary, but you could use any text patterned paper or a text background stamp, too.

Adhere the text paper to the card front, cut some fabric about 6 ¼” X 3 ¼” (I used this yummy lime burlap) and stitch it to the front. Cut three 1 ¼” X 2 ¼” rectangles and punch the corners with the decorative punch. Now we have three little panels to embellish. You can do just about anything with these!

I printed my sentiment out, cut it into strips, and decided where I thought they should go. Then I moved these pieces around approximately eleven times before finally deciding on the arrangement you see here. I knew I wanted a jack-o-lantern for the “trick or treat” section, so I punched an orange cameo and hand cut a stem and face pieces. The “smell my feet”  part was fun. I stamped the little witch on three different cardstock colors, cut them out, and pieced them together.

For the “good to eat” part, I punched a circle (Circle Pop-up Punch) and wrapped it with a piece of 1 ½” ribbon.

I tied each end and cut the ends with pinking shears.

This isn’t your quick solution to needing a quick card at the last minute, but you could make up a few on a crafty afternoon so they’ll be ready when you do need a fun card this October!

I am fond of acorns and have been for some time. So when I saw the new limited edition What a Nut squeeze punch, I couldn't wait to use it! I envisioned mixing and matching different pattern papers for the two sections of the acorn. I wanted to do a series of blocks with the mix and match acorns filling each block. The imperfect stitching adds just the homespun look that I wanted.

I used the Fiskars Premium Crafter's Trimmer with the Scallop Rotary Blade for the upper right block trim. I wanted each block to be a sort of mini frame with it's own detailing and texture.

I like to make cards with my scraps and set them aside so that when i need one, i can just grab one out of a basketful of cards. I try to add my personal photos to many of my cards. Whenever anyone receives a handmade card with a photo, it seems as if the card means as much as any gift. I just think it's fun!

We hope you've enjoyed these cards and that as you create your own this fall you share by adding them to our gallery here.
