All wetSummer is drawing to an end, and that means there are lots of memories to be scrapbooked. From the beach to the pool, water park to the lawn sprinklers - my photos are all wet and I need some inspiration. The solution? Fiskars tools and the creativity of the design team of course!
Designed by: Becky Novacek I always have good intentions to make fun little projects to use as gifts for loved ones. My follow through is not always that good. That is the premise for this simple little summer project. I wanted to combine some of my favorite photos from our cousins’ visit this summer.
They were here for two weeks and we shared some awesome times and memories that we’ll have forever! The thought of making a complete fancy mini-book overwhelmed me, so I made a simple booklet from scraps. I was able to make the bits and pieces of scrap papers much more interesting and pretty by using a few Fiskars tools.
I used one sheet of 12x12 kraft cardstock. Simple trim it down to 3 sheets: 1-4.5”x4.5”, 1-4.5”x5.5 and 1-4.5” x 6”. For the cover, adhere a 3.5” x 5” photo to center, then trim the edge with your Fiskars Pinking Scissors. Use your Fiskars Round n’ Round Large Squeeze Punch on pattern paper and layer with stickers for titlework. Using the Fiskars Squeeze Punch Scalloped Circles for journaling, and Pinking Scissors on papers, continue to build pages for your booklet.
The Fiskars Boundary Waters Border Punch worked perfectly for the swimming shots. Using it on the vintage bookpages and adding the painted torn paper under gives the effect of water, but with a little more interest. Add a bit of machine stitching for even more interest and texture. To bind it together, just use your Fiskars Circle Hand Punch and then tie it all together with a little strip of ribbon. It’s simple and ready to go!

To create this look I started with an 8 x 8 acrylic album cover (I strategically covered up the holes that were pre-drilled for binding the book with rings). I anchored everything onto a 6 inch square piece of canvas. I raveled the edges and machine stitched around the edge as well after cutting to size. Next I punched three- 1” x 7” pieces of cardstock in to shades of blue. I punched along one edge with the Boundary Waters border punch and layered the pieces onto my page. After the pieces were adhered I filled in the middle blue color with clear liquid glaze generously.
I also created some cute little fish creatures with the border punch too! I simply punched a mirror image of the wave design from another one of the 1 inch strips I had already punched on one side…and came up with these little dudes! A little gem helps them to “see.” I cut about a 2 ½ inch circle from a dotted patterned paper to create a sunshine. The Press Star Now Squeeze punch makes quick work of creating little rays for my sun…just punch and snip the rays for the star/flower design.
And finally, I added the glaze to the dots in the patterned paper to make this simple paper piecing come to life! Use foam adhesive squares when adhering items (photo, sunshine and rays) to create varied heights to the elements on the page for lots of depth and texture! Finish the piece off with a title and a date or journaling label and voila! You’ve got a wet and wild décor piece to enjoy!
Lately I've been playing around a lot with Glimmer Mist - which is liquid ink with glitter in it that you can spray on to paper. What better product to use for an "all wet" page! I find that cardstock absorbs the liquid the best and used it as a base for my layout.
I started by punching out water drops using Fiskars Comma Comma Chameleon squeeze punch and arrange them on your background paper. Lay them in a straight line or be creative and create cool designs. I also punched a border using Fiskars Boundary Waves border punch and set it down on the background paper. Holding down the shapes, I gave them a good layer of Glimmer Mist and once they were dry I added one more coat.
Once everything is dry just pull the shapes up and check out the cool negative shape on your page. You can have fun with these by doodling or embellishing the shapes - I added some little gems. Have fun with this "slick" technique on your next layout!
I started with a background of 12x12 blue cardstock, and then went through my patterned paper files and grabbed anything that had a blue background and a small print. Next I grabbed a couple favorite wave inspired tools – the Boundary Waters border punch and the Wave Tear Edger. I cut my patterned paper strips down to 2x11in and then set to tearing and punching each one. I also set aside a 4x12 piece of patterned paper to use as a mat for my photos.
Once I had arranged my strips on my page, I noticed this little pile of scraps left over from punching the Boundary Waters border. I tucked a few into the waves on my page, just for a little added interest. To accent the page, I combined clear buttons and some circles punched with my Round N Round & Seal of Approval squeeze punches and attached with foam adhesive.
I finished the page with a small chipboard title by Basic Grey and journaling above and below my row of photos. It would be easy to include more journaling by spacing out your waves a bit differently if you had a lot to say.

Start by selecting a background paper – I used a wave print from Bo Bunny. Then select a few coordinating patterned papers and cardstock sheets. Using a sheet of cardstock trimmed down to 8.5x11 or smaller as the base of the central part of the page, add patterned paper to the bottom, and punch a strip of cardstock with the Boundary Waters border punch to add your “surf-line” to the bottom of your layout. Use the Making Waves squeeze punch to punch a bunch of wave shapes from light blue cardstock – layer and adhere those punched shapes onto a darker blue cardstock to create a unique tone on tone looking paper that will complement your photo and the theme of the page.
Add your newly punched & created paper to the side of the photo and embellish your page with journaling and punched star shapes. Add your title to the bottom of the page, and punch an XL and L circle and XL star shape from cardstock to form a custom accent that helps extend your page title. Adhere everything to the base patterned paper using Fiskars foam adhesive strips.
